From here we will head towards another “ex-libris” of this region, the Buracas do Casmilo, majestic geological formations that were once complexes of underground caves that are now exposed to the surface. We take a leap back in time and arrive in Penela to visit the imposing Castle that occupies a large part of the town and which since the beginning of Portugal has been an important part of Mondego's defensive line. Finally, we will see remnants of a structure that was used to defend against attacks such as the Castle of Germanelo, here more than the castle is the view that plays the main role. A route and a place that awaits you and your visit! Along this circular path we will walk on wooden walkways, forest areas and agricultural areas. The walkways over the rocks and over the river make this place unique and full of magic. A route where the small waterfalls of Rio Cavalos and riparian gallery will accompany you throughout this adventure. On this walk, you will also have the opportunity to discover and observe the forgotten heritage of this rural corner, which is well marked by having several water mills and watermills along the route of the River Horses.
