In the SSI Open Water Diver course, your diving instructor will teach you the basics of scuba diving in 3 days. You start with the first practical exercise units in shallow water from the beach. The theory is learned easily and conveniently from home in advance of the course. In addition to extensive theoretical training, you will also consolidate your practical knowledge during 4 open water dives (2 of which are from a boat). But obtaining your Open Water Diver diving license is just the beginning. As a qualified diver, fantastic diving destinations, interesting people and incomparable adventures await you. Diving is fun, and this Open Water Diver course is your first step to become an independent diver. The course includes theory part with SSI materials (e-learning, watching movies, discussing with Instructor), 6 dives in the sea with complete equipment, SSI test, OWD international certificate AND T-SHIRT AS A GIFT. The courses starts every Monday and Thursday (or required dates) at 10.00 am and it takes 3 to 6 days, 4 to 6 hours every day to complete the course.

During the first day, you will watch some diving videos and practice basic diving skills in the pool with your instructor. On the second day, you will discover the wonderful underwater fauna of Costa Rica in 2 open water dives while applying everything learned in the first day. And, on the last day, you will do the last 2 dives and take the final exam, thus consolidating everything seen before.

After you complete all dives and the performance requirements you get certified as a SSI Adventure diver / PADI Advanced Open Water Diver.

Usually we dive daily, except Sunday, from 9:30am in small groups so that your personal instructor is always close to you. During the dives you will see many different fish, marine life and  the interesting volcanic underwater world of Tenerife.   The price oft the course Includes: The use of all diving equipment, course literature, logbook, PADI diving fee and, upon request, free pick-up service from your accommodation within a radius of approximately 12 miles (20km) from our Dive Centre.  Additonal cost may apply if distance is more that 10 miles. Please consult us.   Prerequisite for the course is a reasonable state of health. For this you might need a certificate from a doctor. It is also possible to confirm your good state of health on the basis of a list of questions yourself. On request we can send you the health questionaire by e-mail. You try out different specialties while gaining experience under the supervision of your PADI Instructor. At our UNAWATUNA DIVING CENTRE we have around 16 different Dive Sites with different depth from 6 to 30 m we offer Reef Dives, Rock Dives, Wreck Dives and Night Dives. Hard and soft corals are at the most reef dive sites up to 18 m unfortunately rare. At the reefs you can find a lot of macro staff, many different nudibranchs, different coral fish of the Indian Ocean, Sting Rays on the sandy bottom. At the deeper Unawatuna Dive Sites, there are mostly rocky areas with deep valleys to explore. Close to the Galle harbor dive sites there are our wreck dive sites on a sandy ground with the famous "Rangoon" Wreck on a depth of 30 m, the SS Oreste on a depth of 22 m and the Galle Ship Wreck with a depth of 18 m. The most soft corals and fish live at the two deeper wrecks. Mostly there are hundreds and thousand of Sweet Lips and different other fish.
