Ice caves in Iceland are unpredictable and you never know when, if, where or how many will form. But in the last few years, they have consistently formed by Vatnajökull glacier, which is the largest glacier in Europe. They are beautiful to see and a popular photo opportunity for many travelers. This tour will take you on an exploration of an ice cave inside the National Park of Vatnajökull. Ice caves are a rare phenomena that form naturally, so this tour is a once in a life time experience.

Joining this subarctic adventure and driving a snowmobile over Europe’s biggest glacier, will be one of the most exciting experiences you will ever participate in. Along with an exciting adventure, you will also experience an unbelievable view over the glacier. About halfway through the tour, we’ll stop and you can take pictures and peacefully enjoy the scenery. Our guides are informative and entertaining and will tell you facts about the area and the glacier. A valid driver’s license is required to operate the snowmobile. Participants combined weight on one snowmobile MUST be 180kg / 390lbs or less. If your combined weight exceeds 180kg / 390lbs you need to book single snowmobiles. The standard version of our snowmobile tour has two persons riding on one snowmobile. However, if you are travelling solo or in an odd number group 1, 3, 5, etc., you need to book at least one solo rider. Additional cost for 1 x solo rider is 10.000 ISK – paid at the base camp

Experience this exciting hiking and ice caving adventure of the Vatnajökull Glacier in Skaftafell National Park! As you arrive at the park, you will meet your professional glacier guide who will lead the way to some of Vatnajökull Glacier‘s spectacular ice caves and tell you all there is to know about the area. This tour includes hiking for approximately 3 hours up on the glacier visiting multiple, relatively small ice caves along the way. You will be provided with crampons for walking on the ice as well as helmets and ice axes. Waterproof clothing and hiking boots are available for rent but it is highly recommend that you bring these items with you on the tour, also food and drinks are not included.

Our guide takes you on an unforgettable journey on Breiðamerkurjökull, one of Vatnajökull’s biggest outlet glacier.  The trip starts at Glacier Adventures headquarters in Hali, where your guide drives you to the glacier area, away from the crowds and off the beaten path where you can breathe in the fresh glacier air. The tour can take between 3,5 and 4 hours (1 – 1,5 hour on the glacier), including drive back and forth from our headquarters.  This tour is moderated and can be done by most children and adults.

On our Glacier Lagoon day tour we'll go for a drive along the South coast of Iceland heading to Europes largest glacier; Vatnajökull. Vatnajökull is the largest ice cap in Iceland, covering more than 8 percent of the country. In total Vatnajökull covers 8,100 km2 (3,100 sq mi) which is about the size of Delaware! As we arrive to Vatnajökull National Park you'll start to feel the true force of nature, which becomes parent when we reach the large glacial lake Jökulsárlón on the south-east corner of Vatnajökull National Park. The lagoon developed after the Breiðamerkurjökull glacier started receding around the 1930s. The lagoon has grown since then at varying rates because of the melting of the glaciers.
