This self guided audio tour will take you along Liverpool's most storied street. Strolling along Hope Street you will soon discover that it's the hub of Liverpool's entertainment industry, containing four unique theatres and two prestigious musical/theatrical training academies. In addition, the street and surrounding area is home to numerous restaurants and bars making it an ideal place in which to relax and absorb the atmosphere. Your walk begins at one of the city's magnificent buildings, the Metropolitan Cathedral. Moving on, you will hear the history of those four theatres and some of the famous performers who've walked the boards. As you wind your way you will be made aware of the diversity of the street's restaurants. The eateries range from the simple tapas style to exclusive awarding winning establishments. .

Liverpool was at its trading peak during the late Georgian and early Victorian periods and its affluent merchants were seeking grand houses outside of the town center. It was during this period that Hope Street and Rodney Street were laid out and the building of fine houses began. Take a journey back in time and learn about the famous residents and rich history of this era. After the tour, you might want to visit the Victoria Museum housed in the original University of Liverpool building and displays a whole host of fascinating (and sometimes gruesome) medical artifacts from Victorian times. Be amazed on this unmissable and essential tour as you hear about Liverpool – the second city of the Empire and the influence it had on the rest of the World. Liverpool expanded rapidly during the late Georgian and Victorian period. The wealthy began moving away from the overcrowded river front and were living in grand Georgian terraces. Interspersed with these grand houses were court dwellings (or slum housing) fitted into any available space. These were the early examples of social housing. With many of the church graveyards full and no nearby cemetery the need arose for a new one. A disused and depleted stone quarry became a great leveller where the rich and poor from this expanding Liverpool population were buried alongside each other. See the final resting places of Slavers, Pirates, Plantation Owners and wealthy Merchants. The visit is enhanced by the opportunity to produce your very own works of art with wax rubbings taken directly from the stone monuments and memorials.
