Bathrooms and running water are available at the two lower huts. Basic men's and ladies' latrines are available at the last camp. All climbing groups, often from several countries around the world, share meals in dining huts providing a jovial and energetic atmosphere. Soft drinks, bottled water, and beer may be for sale at the huts. Bring small Tanzanian bills to purchase these items (prices increase with elevation). This route is usually done in 5 days, but you can do it in 6 days for better acclimatization. You can spend your extra day resting at Horombo or climbing to a basecamp below Kibo's sub peak Mawenzi.

For those who don't want to summit the Mighty Kilimanjaro, a day trip may offer you the perfect alternative, you can walk via the Marangu route up to Mandara Hut, which is 2,700 metres above sea level where there is a small crater. Rongai Route: The Rongai route is the only route that approaches Kilimanjaro from the north, close to the Kenyan border. Though gaining popularity amongst climbers, Rongai has low traffic. It is the preferred route for those looking for an alternative to the crowded Marangu & Machame route, for those who would like a more remote hike, and for those who are climbing during the rainy season as the north side receives less precipitation.
