I'm Anna Maria Priora, an Italian licensed tour guide with a PhD in WWII history in Italy at the Humboldt University of Berlin. We Will reach Trocchio Hill, to have a wonderful general view on the battlefield, then we will the stop next to the famous Rapido River, we will pay out respect to the local memorials and we will reach the Commonwealth War Cemetery of Cassino. At the end of the tour we will visit the Abbey of Monte Cassino on a WW2 point of view. Tour at the Albaneta Masseria in Montecassino with pedal assisted electric bicycle. We will proceed to the ascent with passage to the Rocca Janula, the Abbey and the Polish Tank. The route is mainly on asphalt and driveways. The track can be viewed and downloaded on Strava.

This tour is for sure "outside" the usual touristic areas. The Abbey of Montecassino is one of the most known Abbeys in the world. In 529 Saint Benedict chose this mountain to build his monastery. In February the Abbey 1944 a bombardment almost flatted it. According to a legend, when Jesus died on the cross, the Jerusalem temple veil was torn causing three deep cracks into the rock of what today is known as Split Mountain of Gaeta. On top of this promontory stands the Sanctuary of the SS. Trinity. At the left side of the church, one of the cracks leads to the Turk's Cave, pilmgrinage and enchanting tourist destination, linked to other stories and relevant personalities.

This is a full day excursion in the mountain country of Cassino & Caserta. Cassino, known for its famous Abbey founded in 529 AD, one of Europe’s oldest, by St. Benedict.  Caserta is on our to Naples; we will stop at the Caserta Palace, the so-called “Versailles” of Italy.  Your English-speaking tour driver will suggest to you some local restaurants for lunch in the area. In the afternoon, you can explore some of the local highlights. After, we will drive back to Rome in order to arrive at around 6:00pm.
