The Rhino & Lion Nature Reserve is a privately-owned game reserve covering 1600 hectares. With plenty of game, this is the perfect setting for admiring nature just an hour’s drive outside of Johannesburg. Visitors can expect to view numerous species including lion, white rhino, wild dog, hippo, crocodile, cheetah and numerous antelope species inside an open game drive vehicle. The trail going up Lion’s head is a screw top trail you’ll be circling the mountain getting to the top. At one point the path gives way to rough ground you have to step up using your hands to scramble over rocks. You will then continue steeply upwards to the first ladder, before traversing along a shelf with a chain handrail. Next, you will reach a fork, where you will have the choices to either veer left to circumnavigate two rock pitches or to turn right and climb the rock pitches. If you are not into vertical rock steps continue left, past some huge pine trees to gain the crest of the southeast ridge.
