Begin your full-day Ethiopian trekking adventure from the old, once-capital city of Gondar. Get picked up from your hotel and drive two hours to Debark, the entrance of Simien Mountains National Park. Upon arrival, get all the formalities and permits figured and meet your guide and the national park scouts who will assist you throughout the day. Then, drive 13 miles to the first area of the park and the starting point of your hike. Begin trekking on a three-hour trail all the way up to Michibi, where you will see the endemic gelada baboon and many varieties of plants and birds. Enjoy the spectacular view of the Simien Mountains from above. End the wonderful day with drop-off to your hotel in Gondar.

You'll drive right to the park's Buait Ras area, from where you'll trek to the viewpoint of Chilkuwanit, known for its fantastic views and troops of Gelada Baboons. Its peaks include Ras Dashed, which at 4533m is the highest peak in Ethiopia. The Park is a World Heritage Site, and is rich with wildlife totally unique to the region, including the scarlet-chested Gelada Baboon, the Alia Ibex and the Simien Fox. The mountains are also home to diverse plant-life and over fifty species of bird.

Simien Mountain and Danakil are two different landscapes, simien mountains are part of the Ethiopian Highlands. They are a World Heritage Site and include the Simien Mountains National Park. The mountains consist of plateaus separated by valleys and rising to pinnacles. Where as danakil is one of the most geologically active regions with three tectonic plates meeting at the Afar Triple Junction. When tectonic plates move apart like at Danakil, it creates lave lakes, hot springs, geysers and fissures in the ground. The rock-hewn churches of Lalibela in Ethiopia are the most extraordinary man-made sites in sub-Saharan Africa. This spectacular UNESCO protected site will not fail to take your breath away, especially from the top of Ras Dashen, Ethiopia's, highest point at 4543m above sea level. Be awestruck in the landscape's every direction, from the deep valleys to the jagged mountain peaks. Once again, wildlife lovers will get a thrill from Ethiopia's animal range: over 20 large mammal species and over 130 bird species reside in the park. Amongst these, you can spot the gelada baboon, the carcal (large cat), and the three meter wing-spanned lammergeier (bearded vulture). Endangered species can also be found, including the Ethiopian wolf and the Walia Ibex, a wild goat found nowhere else in the world. Some say the Simien Mountains are the rival of Colorado's Grand Canyon; the only way to find out is to see them for yourself.

This seven day hike, is tailored towards serious hikers, and will take you across a large part of the Simien Mountains National Park. The starting and finishing point for the tour will be Gondar. The trek includes two half days of trekking and five full days. The elevation of the trek will rise and fall between 2000 – 4000 meters above sea level. Expect to see a variety of wildlife including Gelada monkey, Walia Ibex and a variety of bird life. If you’re lucky you may also see the simien fox as well as leopards.
