From the Port of Corfu, we follow the Albanian coast to the city port of Saranda. A 20 km guided coach tour of the south coast’s virgin shores and scattered islands is available. The Ancient City of Butrint, an archeological site in Vlorë County, Albania, 14 kilometres in the south of Sarandë. Located on a hill overlooking the Vivari Channel and part of the Butrint National Park. The city is considered as one of the most important archaeological sites in Albania. On the strength of the immense wealth of cultural, historical and natural value with a considerable history, Butrint was declared a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1992 and further a National Park in 2000. You will take a walk around the ancient city dominated by Greco–Roman temples, olive groves, and panoramic views of the Adriatic Sea. At the heart of the site, you will visit the Byzantine church of St. Mary and the impressive museum of Apollonia. The trip continues to the Narta Lagoon, a protected area lived by flamingos and pelicans. The tour will drive you all around the lagoon and salt marshes for birdwatching. Later, we will transfer to the coastal city of Vlore, where the Independence of Albania took place in 1912. You will have plenty of time to visit the Old Town, the Independence Square, and the different religious sites – the Muradie Mosque, and “Kuzum Baba” Bektashi Temple – to learn more about religious co-existence in Albania. The St. George's Monastery Complex is located on the hill of Dema, offering a beautiful view of the Ionian Sea to the west, and Lake Butrint to the east. The monastery is a fortified monastery, with walls, towers and turrets. In addition to the living quarters and ancillary facilities, in the center of the monastery is the church of Saint George, which was reconstructed in the 14th century. This Monastery Complex has been declared a cultural monument and is a truly beautiful site to visit.
