Stuðlagil Highland Circle with a Local Guide

Stuðlagil Canyon, located in eastern Iceland, is famous for its stunning basalt column formations, among the largest in the country. This breathtaking site is a photographer’s paradise, especially when the river runs clear. The vibrant blue-green hue of the glacial river contrasts beautifully with the dark basalt columns, leaving visitors in awe. Although the canyon’s appearance changes with the seasons, it remains a captivating destination year-round. The moderately challenging hike to the canyon takes about two hours round trip. After exploring Stuðlagil, we venture into the highlands to Hafrahvammagljúfur Canyon, Iceland’s deepest canyon, reaching depths of 200 meters. Known as Dimmugljúfur or "The Dark Canyon," sunlight rarely penetrates its depths. Along the way, we stop at a hidden natural hot spring, where guests can relax amidst serene wilderness. On the return journey, we also view the Hálslón reservoir and the Kárahnjúkar dam, home to Iceland’s largest power plant.
