Kathmandu: Namobuddha Monastery Hiking Day Tour
This 5-hour private day trip starts from Kathmandu and takes you to hike the hill of Namobuddha, at 1750 meters altitude atop the Panauti village. Spend a day away from the busy city enjoying gorgeous views of the surrounding mountain and the valleys below. On top of Namobudha is the grand and beautiful Thrangu Tashi Yangtse Monastery from where a panoramic view of Panauti and Khopasi villages can be seen. It's also believed that Lord Buddha in his past life as a prince had offered his body to a hungry tigress whose five cubs were starving since she was so frail and weak to go out hunting. Namobuddha Stupa houses the remains of the kind-hearted prince which is closer to the Namobuddha monastery. The hike starts from the medieval town of Panauti passing along farmland, small woodlands, and villages toward the top of Namobuddha. Upon reaching Namobuddha, visit the monastery, shrine enjoying panoramic views all around. Afterward, drive back to Kathmandu and drop off at your hotel.

Namobuddha Day Hike is a full day tour to Thrangu Tashi Yangtse monastery in Dhulikhel. It is located at a distance of 40 kilometers from the capital city Kathmandu. It is also considered to be one of the most sacred and religious monasteries in Nepal. The monastery itself is located in a very peaceful environment atop a hill of Namobuddha Municipality. It is surrounded by lush greenery with a wide range of mountains visible. The visible mountains here include Mt. Gauri Shankar, Mt. Lakpa Dorje, Mt. Jugal, Mt. Langtang and Mt. Ganesh among others.
The tour usually begins with a pick up from your hotel at 08:00 AM in the morning. After nearly an hour drive to Dhulikhel, the hike begins at 09:00 AM. The journey then continues via Kavrekot Kali Mandir (Temple) with a thousand steps and a historical Newari Village on the way. The main festivals and mela celebrated here are Kartik Purnima and Buddha Jayanti.

Day hike to the Panauti and Namobuddha are both historically and culturally significant places in Nepal. Both places are visited by the large number of travelers everyday. The hike starts from Panauti which is one the medieval period town. Generally the hiker starts by following the dirt road along the river and passing the town’s Hindu temple. For the next two hours, the trail leads through small villages and rice fields. You can also see the locals planting, harvesting rice and other crops and get a great insight into the village life of Nepal.
As you reach to Namobuddha, the atmosphere will be so peace and clean air along with the great devotees of Buddha. Namobuddha is dedicated to the previous life of Gautam Buddha.
