We visit the neighborhood of Barra, the place where the Portuguese colony started and where I discovered Salvador some decades ago… but I had more eye for the beaches at that time! We visit the iconic lighthouse to have a splendid view of the bay and ocean. We take the Avenue of the 7th of September to get to the Pelourinho, my favorite place in Salvador. It's also called the Historical Center, a World Heritage Site by the UNESCO, and it's a must for the visitors. Salvador Lower City tour – half a day to experience a different Salvador.

On this tour, you will get a different view of the Salvador by visiting its Lower City and the peninsula of Itapagipe. It's completely surrounded by the calm waters of the bay, an oasis of peace at only 8 km from the busy harbor area and my favorite part of the city where I lived for more than 20 years. I recommend a visit to the biggest and swarming open market of the city, called São Joaquim to dive into the daily live and habits of the locals and discover some secrets of the Candomblé, the African religion. We visit neighborhoods like Ribeira, with fantastic views on the Bay of All Saints and its small marinas and the possibility to taste the best ice cream of the city! Then the famous church of Nosso Senhor do Bonfim, a unique place for pilgrimage where you can still feel the syncretism between Catholicism and Candomblé. Finally the Fort of Monte Serrat and Ponta de Humaitá, the most romantic spot in Salvador with the possibility to see one of the most wonderful sunsets of Brazil!

Salvador Full Day City Tour – a complete day to discover this magic Salvador!

The best way to experience the city of Salvador, dive into its history, culture, religiosity, and the habits of the people of Bahia, is to combine the Upper City and Lower City tours into one Full Day tour (see also the descriptions of the Upper and Lower City tours). One of my favorite places in the Upper City is the Pelourinho neighborhood, where besides the beauty of the monuments, squares and colonial houses, you can feel the sympathy, energy and joy of the Soteropoletanos – that's how the locals of Salvador are called – who work and live in this lively neighborhood. Maybe you'll be able to experience some action, like Capoeira dancing or a local drum band performing in the streets. You will have the opportunity to lunch in a cozy, local restaurant and taste one of the delicious regional dishes, such as my favorite, the "moqueca", a stew of fish and or seafood prepared in the African way! This tour offers you an unforgettable experience with satisfaction guaranteed!
