Gain an insight to Northern Queensland’s vast diversity without the crowds. Kevin will pick you up from your accommodation, introduce you to the other adventurers and start you on a unique one day experience.
A short drive and you are out in the rainforest, enjoying the crystal clear water of Stoney Creek and a rainforest interpretive walk. Up the hill you climb, enjoying panoramic views of Cairns City and out to the Great Barrier Reef. Morning tea is served overlooking Lake Morris, a man made marvel, surrounded by Lambs Range a small part of the 900 000 hectares that makes up part of the World Heritage Listed Wet Tropics. Through a locked gate, 4WD is locked and your journey into the vastness of the rainforest begins. Jurrasic Park is a statement heard often…
You follow a seldom used old logging track into the traditional land of the Tjapukai people. You are now travelling back in time, it is a living museum. Plants and animals that no longer survive any where else on the planet still inhabit this area. The rare Cassowary, the Boyd’s Rainforest Dragon, Musky Rat Kangaroo and Giant Tree Fern are found nowhere but here.
Marvelling at the immenseness and natural beauty of the surrounds, you drive though five crystal clear streams and arrive at your lunch spot.
A buffet lunch is served Alfreso in the middle of the forest. The sounds of the wind, water and birds are your background music.
After lunch you take a boardwalk adventure. The biggest birds nest you will see, an amazingly beautiful water feature, a tree you think is the biggest you have ever seen, till you see the surprise at the end of the boardwalk. A 900 year old strangler fig tree. This tree has strangled, killed and eaten another tree. Definitely a jungle in here
After two more stream crossings the rainforest dissapears suddenly. Landscape and weather change dramatically. We are now in the Aussie Bush. Eucalyptus trees and giant termite mounds are the new features.
All of a sudden seemingly out of nowhere an ice cream shop appears. A complimentary ice cream is enjoyed. With 45 flavours of hand made ice creams all produced from locally grown fruit, choosing one is always difficult. A large selection of locally made souvenirs are available here as well.
Your afternoon break is followed by another landscape change. On the way to Davies Creek Falls for an afternoon cool down, you touch on the edge of the Aussie Outback. The waterfall itself is amazing, but it’s the secret natural rock pool at the top which is the surprise.
The pool is so incredible that a beer commercial has been filmed there. What more of a recommendation do you need?
No Aussie adventure would be complete without seeing a wallaby or 200. The aptly named Pretty Faced Wallabies are always photogenic.
At the end of the tour having been amused, entertained and educated, Kevin will bid you farewell and return you to your accommodation.
